Sriram got the vote of Jalal Yunus

Sriram's tenure, which improved the team's performance in a span of just two months, ended with the conclusion of the Bangladesh-Pakistan match. Sriram worked on 'Intent' and 'Impact' to change the performance of batsmen in twenty over cricket. This time Sriram tried to extract impact performance from Mehedi Hasan Miraj and Sabbir Rahman as 'Makeshift' opener. Although in this case he was not very successful. But within two months at least his disciples were able to coordinate intent and impact. The whole team has started getting the benefits. Even if the results are not favorable all the time, this intent-impact of his may bring great success in the future.

Despite Sridharan's success, whether he will be seen as the coach of Shakib-Litton in the long term is in doubt. Jalal Younus, chairman of BCB's cricket management department, however, has Sriram in mind. However, there is no guarantee that Sriram will coach Shakib Al Hasan in the long term! প্রথমত, বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে শ্রীরামের দীর্ঘমেয়াদে সম্পৃক্ত হওয়ার পথে বাধা ইন্ডিয়ান প্রিমিয়ার লিগ (আইপিএল)। বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে যুক্ত হলেও শ্রীরামকে আইপিএলের সময় ছেড়ে দিতে হবে। কেননা অস্ট্রেলিয়ার স্পিন বোলিং কোচের দায়িত্ব সামলানো শ্রীরাম রয়্যাল চ্যালেঞ্জার্স বেঙ্গালুরুরের পদটা ঠিকঠাকভাবে সামলাতেই দায়িত্ব ছেড়েছিলেন। এরপর আসেন বাংলাদেশে। ভারতীয় এই কোচের এমন সিদ্ধান্তেই বোঝা যাচ্ছে তার কাছে আইপিএলের গুরুত্ব কতখানি। এই অবস্থায় বিসিবির সঙ্গে নতুন করে চুক্তি করা হলে নিশ্চিত ভাবেই আইপিএলের বিষয়টি সামনে আসবে। কেননা বিশাল অঙ্কের টাকা ছেড়ে দিয়ে বাংলাদেশের কোচের ভূমিকাতে নিশ্চিতভাবেই থাকতে চাইবেন না শ্রীরাম।

পুরনো ইতহাস অবশ্য বলছে, শ্রীরামের এমন সুযোগের সম্ভাবনা বেশ ক্ষীণই। একমাত্র জাতীয় দলের কম্পিউটার অ্যানালিস্ট শ্রীনিবাস চন্দ্রশেখরন জাতীয় দলের দায়িত্বের পাশাপাশি আইপিএলে কাজ করার অভিজ্ঞতা আছে। বিসিবি শ্রীনিবাসকে ছাড়া কাউকেই এমন সুযোগ দেয়নি। এই যেমন, আইপিএলে কাজ করার অনুমতি না পেয়ে বাংলাদেশের চাকরি ছেড়েছিলেন মারিও ভিল্লাভারায়েন। শ্রীরামের ব্যাপারে বিসিবি নমনীয় হয় কিনা সেটাই দেখার। জালাল ইউনুস অবশ্য শ্রীরাম ইস্যুতে স্পষ্ট করে কিছু বলেননি, ‘সেকেন্ডারি আলোচনা আগে কেন? আইপিএল, পারিশ্রমিক এগুলো তো পরের ব্যাপার। প্রথম তো আমাদের শ্রীধরন  শ্রীরামের ব্যাপারে সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে হবে। 

আরও একটি কারণে শ্রীরামের সঙ্গে নতুন চুক্তি নিয়ে ভীষণ ভাবতে হচ্ছে বিসিবিকে। বেশ কিছু গণমাধ্যমে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে, ভারতীয় এই কোচের সোজাসাপ্টা কথা-বার্তায় কিছুটা বিরক্ত বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট নিয়ন্ত্রণ সংস্থা! এমনকি টিম ডিরেক্টর খালেদ মাহমুদ সুজনকে চার্জ করার বিষয়টি পরিচালকরা ভালোভাবে নেয়নি বলে জানা গেছে। এই কারণে শ্রীরামের ভালো পারফরম্যান্স স্বত্ত্বেও তাকে নিয়ে সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে দেরি হচ্ছে! জালাল ইউনুসের কূটনৈতিক উত্তর, ‘দেরি কোথায়? তাকে তো আমাদের দীর্ঘমেয়াদী কোচ হিসেবে নিয়োগ দিতে হবে। কোন সময়, কোন সিরিজ, কোন ফরম্যাট নাকি সব ফরম্যাট তাকে পাবো- এসব বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে হবে। আমাদের তো অলরেডি রাসেল ডমিঙ্গো আছে, যিনি এখানে কাজ করছে। আমরা কীভাবে এগোবো, আগে তো সেগুলো ঠিক করবো। তারপর না আইপিএল কিংবা অন্য ইস্যুগুলো আসবে। হুট করেই বলে দিলাম, শ্রীরাম কোচ; আর কোচ হয়ে যাবে; সেটা কিন্তু না। এটা কিন্তু সহজ না।’

Meanwhile, team cricketers including captain Shakib Al Hasan showered Sriram with praise. Cricketers are interested in working with him.
