What will happen if the India-England match is washed away by rain?

The weather forecast says there is a 40 per cent chance of rain in Adelaide today, Thursday. The amount of rain is also increasing. According to the local weather department, the sky will be partly cloudy today. Gusty winds may blow in the morning. Scattered rain is possible till afternoon. Rainfall may be up to 1 mm.

It was reported last Tuesday that there may be up to 0.4 mm of rain on the day of the India-England match. But on Wednesday, that forecast increased to 1 mm. The possibility of dramatic changes in the weather cannot be ruled out at all. As a result, both camps have concerns about today's semi-final.

Four matches of this year's T20 World Cup have been canceled due to rain. The South Africa-Zimbabwe match was washed away by rain. South Africa could have met in the place of Pakistan in yesterday's semi-final if that had happened on the field. That match is not the end of course. Rain has partially halted a few more matches in this World Cup. There is a lot of apprehension about today's match.

However, there is a difference between the group stage and the semi-final and final of the T20 World Cup. While there is no reserve day for any of the group stage matches, there is for the knockouts. If India and England match is not played on Thursday, it will be played on Friday. 

But if the two-day game is washed away due to rain, what will happen? According to ICC rules, two teams must play at least 10 overs to get the result of the match. In normal T20 matches two teams have to play at least 5 overs for a result. But at least 10 overs must be played in the semi-finals and finals of the World Cup. Otherwise, the result of the match will not come out.

Today, if the game is stopped on the first day after pitching, then the game will start from there on the second day. As it happened in the 2019 Cricket World Cup India vs New Zealand semi-final.

But if that is not possible in the rain, then it will be seen which team had more points in the group stage. The team with more points will advance to the finals. India is in a somewhat advantageous position in this regard. Because India's points in the group stage are 8. On the other hand, England's point is 7.

There is also a reserve day in the final. However, if the two-day game is washed away by rain, then the rules are different. If both teams fail to complete 10 overs in two days, then the two finalists will be declared joint winners.
